Christian Pulisic admits "chip on my shoulder" against Trinidad and Tobago

Almost universally, US national team players insisted there would be no sort of payback factor that played into Saturday night's Gold Cup meeting against the Trinidad and Tobago side that ruined their most recent World Cup qualifying campaign.

But after a resounding 6-0 win in Group D, at least one player revealed that may not have been entirely true.

Christian Pulisic, one of a handful of players on the current US squad who played in the 2-1 loss in Couva in 2017, told FOX Sports' Rodolfo Landeros what many of us probably suspected, that of course that defeat was on some players' minds when taking the field in Cleveland.

"I didn’t like to say it, but I definitely had a little chip on my shoulder, today" Pulisic revealed. "I hope you guys could see that today."

Pulisic assisted the Americans' first and third goals before scoring their fourth in a man-of-the-match performance. When it was all over, the U.S. had tied their all-time most lopsided Gold Cup victory, equaling a 6-0 win over Cuba in the 2015 quarterfinals.
