In his brief foray into Turkish football, Atiba Hutchinson has already experienced quite a lot. Since joining Besiktas in the summer, Hutchinson had already seen his team booted from the Europa League for a match-fixing scandal that took place prior to his arrival and now he’s had his first experience with fans invading the pitch.
On Sunday, Hutchinson was on the field when Besiktas fans stormed the pitch in second-half stoppage time while trailing 2-1 to Galatasaray. Play was suspended and there’s been no decision on what will result from the incident. Coming into the game, Besiktas had won all four of their previous Süper Lig games to start the season.
Down in the 1. Lig, Tosaint Ricketts finally found the scoreboard twice for his first two goals of the season. Ricketts had gone scoreless in his brief stint with Sadnes Ulf in Norway but scored twice on Sunday for Bucaspor in their 5-4 loss to Adana Demirspor. Bucaspor are in 16th of 19 teams in the league.
In Germany, Eintracht Braunschweig are still winless and Simeon Jackson is still goalless after he came on in the 83rd minute on Friday in Braunschweig’s 4-1 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach. Braunschweig is dead last in the Bundesliga.
Defender Marcel de Jong didn’t see action in the league this weekend but he did get the start and played all 90 minutes on Tuesday as Augsburg easily beat Preussen Munster 3-0 in the DfB Pokal to advance out of the second round.
Down in the 2.Bundesliga, Rob Friend scored his first of the season in 1860 Munich’s 3-1 win over Erzgebirge Aue on Saturday, as 1860 climbed up to fifth place with the win. Friend then came off the bench in the 112th minute of 1860's 2-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. The two teams were scoreless after 90 minutes.
Elsewhere, Olivier Occean is still without a goal and FC Kaiserslautern are in 11th place after playing Köln to a scoreless draw on Friday. Occean played all 90 minutes.
In England, David Edgar saw action for Burnley in both the Championship and in the Capital One Cup. On Saturday, Edgar came on in the 69th minute as Burnley beat Leeds United 2-1 and are in second place. On Tuesday, Edgar started and played all 90 minutes as Burnley beat Nottingham Forest 2-1 in the third round of the Capital One Cup.
In Greece, Julian de Guzman played all 90 minutes for Skoda Xanthi on Monday in their 2-0 win over last-place Aris. Xanthi have seven points in five games and are in ninth place in the Super League standings.
Despite just picking up one win in the last four league games, Kenny Stamatopoulos’ AIK are still in the running for the Swedish Allsvenskan title. Stamatopoulos was in goal on Monday in a 3-1 loss to IFK Goteborg. AIK are in fourth place and six points back of first.
Down in the Superettan, Nik Ledgerwood put in 90 minutes of work on Sunday for Hammarby in their 2-1 win over Jonkopings Sodra. They’re up to fifth place with the win.
In Finland, Frank Jonke scored his sixth goal of the season but it wasn’t enough as Jaro lost 2-1 to Mariehamn on Saturday. Defender Roger Thompson played all 90 minutes as Mariehamn are in fourth place while Jaro sit in eighth in the Veikkausliiga.
In the Ykkonen, goalkeeper David Monsalve’s Oulu look likely for a mid-table finish after playing OPS to a 1-1 tie on Friday. They’re in fifth place in the 10-team league.
In Uruguay, forward Lucas Cavallini is still looking for his first goal of the season after he came off the bench in the 65th minute on Sunday for Nacional in their 1-0 win over River Plate. Nacional are in third place.
