Former North Carolina coach Elmar Bolowich has resigned from his post in order to take over at Creighton University, Bluejays athletic director Bruce Rasmussen announced Wednesday evening.

"I am very honored and excited to formally accept the head coaching position for the men's soccer team at Creighton University," said Bolowich in a press release. "Bruce Rasmussen has made me an offer I couldn't refuse, as he is willing and able to provide the resources to make Creighton soccer a national power.”

Bolowich, who was named ACC Coach of the Year in 2010, will officially end his tenure as Tar Heels head coach on Feb. 28. The move marks the end of his 22-year coaching career in Chapel Hill, during which time he posted a 280-144-40 record and 15 NCAA Tournament appearances since 1989.

Bolowich led UNC to three straight College Cup appearances (2008-10) and won the 2001 national title.
