Hello everyone and welcome to my blog!!! My name is Alecko Eskandarian aka Esky, and I am a forward on the newest MLS team and the pride of Canada, Toronto FC.

First and foremost I'd like to give you a little background about me since I am sure you are going to learn a lot about me along the way. First off, I am 24 yrs old and born and raised in northern New Jersey. Where I'm from is crazy, picture The Soprano's meets G Unit and everything in between all rolled into one. That's why I'm excited about moving to Toronto, I'm definitely no stranger to living in a melting pot of cultures. So anyways, the whole idea of this blog thing came up a few weeks ago. I am a huge Gilbert Arenas fan (NBA basketball player for the Washington Wizards). Gilbert writes a weekly blog for the NBA website and its hilarious, he writes about everything from predictions of how many points he will score in a game to pranks he plays on his teammates to just venting about personal issues. It really makes for a great read, and I have especially been consumed by it during this preseason. It's a great tool for fans to see what the life of a pro athlete is really like and how we might feel on certain issues. Well, as I was laying in bed after training, reading Gilbert's blog, I turned over to my roommate Ronnie O'Brien and said, "Ronnie, I need a blog." Ronnie pretended not to hear me. So then I emailed Michelle, our press officer (I think), and told her that I wanted to do something to keep me occupied in between training sessions. The thing with preseason is that we basically live out of a suitcase for 2 months and travel from one hotel to another, in places where we don't have any friends. It can definitely make you a bit homesick, but it is necessary for teams to isolate themselves and focus on getting fit for a long season while also forcing us to bond with teammates. I found myself doing one of 2 things with all my free time. #1 - resting and doing rehab to get myself strong since I am coming off of surgery. #2 - playing on the internet. When playing Deal or No Deal online started becoming the highlight of my day, I realized I needed something new ... like a blog! So I emailed Michelle and told her that our team website looked a little boring and I should spice it up a bit. She asked what I had in mind and the rest is history.

Basically, I hope this "blog" will help you, the fan, see what the life of an MLS pro soccer player is like. I also hope you will gain some insight on different things we deal with throughout the course of this long MLS season. Obviously with Toronto FC, there are many more issues than your basic run of the mill MLS team. Oh yes, my friends, we will explore deep into your patriotic hearts and share a few of our USA vs Canada debates that come up daily with our team. Plus, you will hear first hand about the pranks Ronnie O and I have been playing on the rookies. And finally, I want this blog to be interesting and fun for the fans so I am open to all questions and suggestions to know what you want to see. So I hope you guys enjoy this introduction to my blog and I promise that you will be entertained by the behind the scenes view I will provide for you of Toronto FC.

Cheers eh!!!! And by cheers I mean goodbye, not thank you ...
