Chicago Fire midfielder Cuauhtemoc Blanco saw his offseason stint with Santos Laguna come to an end on Sunday, as the Guerreros were eliminated from the FMF Primera Division's Apertura tournament in a 2-1 loss to Toluca in the second leg of their semifinal series.

The first leg finished scoreless on Thursday. With the victory, Toluca will advance to the final where they will face Cruz Azul, who defeated 4-2 on aggregate in their semifinal series.

Despite the loss, Blanco played very well for Santos Laguna during his time on loan and club president Alejandro Irragorri was receptive to the star midfielder returning to the team in the future.

Blanco played a total of four games for Santos Laguna. He scored a penalty kick goal in Santos Laguna's defeat of top-seed San Luis in the Apertura quarterfinals.

Blanco is expected to return to the Fire for the 2009 season.
