Barrett's best-ever goal

Chad Barrett

Toronto FC forward Chad Barrett describes his game-winning free kick against Colorado Rapids as the best goal of his career so far. Barrett's first half strike was the only goal of the game, and has earned him a nomination for the league's Goal of the Week award. To vote for Barrett, click here.

It was Barrett's first goal for Toronto following his move from the Chicago Fire.

"It was a special goal in a bunch of ways," he said. "It was my first goal for the team in only my second game, it's easily the best goal I've ever scored and it helped give us a win. The monkey is off the back! People won't have to ask me questions now about when I am going to score. I plan to keep opening people's eyes. I feel I can help this team out and I plan to do so."

"I am not used to taking free kicks," said Barrett. "At Chicago, Cuauhtemoc Blanco would always take them, and here I wouldn't have been taking it if Amado Guevara or Laurent Robert were playing. I got my chance to take it and I capitalized on it which was nice."

Barrett admits it needed solid team performance to secure the Reds' second away win of the season.

"We went in there with a plan. The coach said it was one of the best games we have had, because we stuck to our game plan. We gave them some chances but Greg Sutton was there to bail us out. Everybody had roles to do. We knew we weren't going to outshoot them or have more chances than them because they're on their home field at high altitude on a very hot day. We went there with a job to do and knowing that when we got chances we needed to capitalize on them, and fortunately we did."

The striker has settled in well to his new life in Toronto less than two weeks after moving from Chicago.

"The team is great, the fans are great, the people are great and the city is awesome," said Barrett. "Everybody has welcomed me and I can't thank people enough. I really feel as if I've been here since the start of the season. I'm on the same page as the rest of the team now and the chemistry is continuing to build."
