Atlanta United and the New York Red Bulls renew their rivalry Sunday afternoon at Mercedes-Benz Stadium with both teams looking to rebound from four-goal midweek defeats.

Atlanta (9-8-3) suffered the most lopsided defeat in its young history, falling to the Chicago Fire, 5-1, Wednesday at SeatGeek Stadium. The Five Stripes trailed 2-0 after seven minutes and were reduced to 10 men four minutes later when Leandro Gonzalez-Pirez was sent off for DOGSO. Nico Gaitan converted the subsequent penalty kick and the Fire tacked on two more goals before halftime to run away with a stunning victory.

The Red Bulls (8-7-3) conceded late in a 4-0 defeat to the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Stadium Wednesday. After Mauro Manotas gave the Dynamo a 1-0 halftime lead, Tomas Martinez doubled the advantage in the 56th minute before Alberth Elis struck for a late brace. New York finished the match with nine men after Michael Amir Murillo and Kaku were both sent off in the final seven minutes.

This is the second regular season meeting this year with the Red Bulls pulling out a 1-0 win at Red Bull Arena May 19 despite being reduced to 10 men when Tim Parker was sent off for DOGSO. Tom Barlow scored the lone goal, his first in MLS, to secure the win in a match that got testy just before, and after, the final whistle.
