Kansas City Wizards midfielder/forward Davy Arnaud has been named to the initial 19-man training camp roster for the upcoming World Cup 2010 qualifier against Guatemala. The game comes next Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast nationally on ESPN 2 and Galavision. Arnaud was one of the out-of-season MLS players chosen by U.S. Head Coach Bob Bradley to train for the next four days at DSG Park. The final match roster will be named Nov. 16 and contain players from the initial training camp, players based in Europe and players who are eliminated from the MLS Cup Playoffs at the weekend. The initial training camp takes place this Wednesday through Saturday.
Arnaud, 28, has one previous career appearance (CAP) with the U.S. National Team and has been a member of multiple training camps. Arnaud's first CAP came in Sept. 9, 2007 against world power Brazil. Arnaud replaced Landon Donovan late in the match and earned a hard-fought corner kick against the Samba Kings after a long run up the right flank.
Arnaud was one of the offensive leaders for Kansas City in 2008, scoring seven goals and adding three assists in the regular season to capture the Budweiser Team Golden Boot award. He also scored the team's lone playoff goal off a picture-perfect give-and-go with teammate Claudio Lopez that started deep in the Wizards defensive third of the field. After Arnaud was moved to a central attacking midfielder role for Kansas City, the team went 5-1-1 down the stretch to qualify for post-season play.
In addition to the Team Golden Boot, Arnaud was named the 2008 KCW Heart Award winner for his hard work and dedication. The native of Nederland, Texas missed the entire preseason after undergoing microfracture surgery on his knee and rallied to be one of Kansas City's team leaders. His goal on Sept. 13 against the Los Angeles Galaxy is currently one of ten semifinalists for the 2008 Sierra Mist Goal of the Year Award.
