American Exports: Dolo, Hannover rally past 'Gladbach

Michael Bradley

AMSTERDAM – Several Americans took the field in Europe on Saturday afternoon, with Steve Cherundolo and Hannover 96 climbing tentatively up to third place in the Bundesliga by rallying past 10-man hosts Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1.

It all started well for the Foals, as Michael Bradley (above) opened the scoring when his 17th-minute long free kick bounced home without a touch. However, the hosts were left shorthanded by Raúl Bobadilla's red card near the break and Cherundolo's Reds responded with a pair of second-half strikes to flip the result.

DaMarcus Beasley was an unused sub for the victors.

Elsewhere in Germany, Ricardo Clark watched on from the dugout as Eintracht Frankfurt topped Mainz 05 by a 2-1 count.

Over in the Premier League, Tim Howard surrendered the penalty kick for Chelsea's opener, but he and Everton regrouped to claw back late for a 1-1 road draw.

The US keeper was done wrong by a head-scratching Phil Neville back-pass and could do little about it as Nicolas Anelka collected to clatter through him on the path to goal. Howard was shown yellow, but rallied with a pair of saves on scorer Didier Drogba before Toffees sub Jermaine Beckford equalized in the waning moments.

Clint Dempsey notched an assist over 90 solid minutes and Eddie Johnson made a late cameo as Fulham dropped a 2-1 local derby decision at new EPL leaders Arsenal.

Finally, Marcus Hahnemann served as back-up netminder for Wolverhampton's 3-0 loss at Blackburn.
