Amauri rescues Juve run up Serie A

An 89th-minute goal from Amauri saw Juventus snatch a dramatic victory at Lecce to cut Inter Milan's advantage at the Serie A summit back to six points.

Lecce substitute Daniele Cacia looked to have earned a point for the hosts when he struck seven minutes from time to cancel out a 57th-minute free-kick by Sebastian Giovinco, who was making only his third league start of the season.

But Brazilian Amauri had the last word, heading home Paolo de Ceglie's cross a minute from time to secure the points at the Stadio Via del Mare and keep Lecce just one point above the drop zone.

Juve midfielder Mohamed Sissoko had the first real sight of goal in the 11th minute but his 30-yard shot was deflected just wide.

Giovinco, who this week ruled himself out of a move to West Ham by insisting he is happy to stay with the Bianconeri even if only to sit on the bench, fired in a dangerous-looking free-kick from the right eight minutes later but Giorgio Chiellini and Nicola Legrottaglie got in each other's way and the chance passed by.

The visitors appealed for a penalty on the half-hour mark when Marco Marchionni went down in the area following a fine pass from Amauri, but the referee was unmoved.

Cristian Molinaro was then presented with a golden opportunity to break the deadlock seven minutes before the interval when Lecce goalkeeper Francesco Benussi's poor clearance from Giovinco's free-kick fell at his feet, but he failed to test Benussi.

Lecce forward Simone Tiribocchi tried his luck from distance in first-half stoppage time but could not find the target.

Juve were having the better of the possession but were unable to find the breakthrough. The second half began in the same vein with Benussi easily dealing with Claudio Marchisio's right-footed shot two minutes after the break.

Giovinco then made some space for himself on the left and supplied Amauri, whose left-footed shot was narrowly wide.

The opening goal finally arrived 12 minutes into the second period when Giovinco's perfect free-kick from the edge of the box found its way into the Lecce net via the fingertips of Benussi.

Tiribocchi headed over midway through the second half as the hosts looked to get back on level terms.

Jose Castillo also had an opportunity 10 minutes from time from Alberto Giuliatto's left-wing cross on the left, but could not find the target as the visitors appealed for offside.

Three minutes later, Lecce were level, however, when Cacia latched onto Guillermo Giacomazzi's cross and volleyed a neat left-footed effort past Alex Manninger.

That looked to have been enough to secure a hard-earned point for the home side, but that was before Amauri got in on the act to head home a last-gasp winner.
