CARSON, CA - Allison Conkright from Santa Monica is the winner of the Miss L.A. Galaxy 2006 contest, presented Cover Girl. She earned a $1000 prize and a makeup prize from Cover Girl.
The Arizona State University graduate defeated ten other finalists in the contest, held on the main concourse of The Home Depot Center prior to the Galaxy-Earthquakes match on Saturday, October 15.
Conkright counts among her hobbies playing and coaching sports, including currently coaching a Girls Under-12 team in Santa Monica and playing in a women's soccer league in Santa Monica. She has also assisted in several volunteer efforts, including raising money for Cardiac Aid through a series of different events, tutoring underprivileged elementary school children, working with American Charity Events to raise money for the Special Olympics and serving parishioners at the soup kitchen at St. Euphrasia Church.
The winner was not the only contestant to go away with a prize: those named members of the court were: first runner-up Elizabeth Palomares of Chatsworth, second runner-up Stephanie O'Brien of Santa Ana and third runner-up Cecilia Jativa of Temple City.
The Miss L.A. Galaxy contest was created to recognize females who are involved in their community, support community soccer and the Los Angeles Galaxy. The winner was chosen based on her poise, confidence, public speaking abilities and academic success.
