Columbus Crew SC put a five-match unbeaten streak on the line when they host Minnesota United at MAPFRE Stadium Wednesday night. 


Crew SC (8W-1L-3D) are coming off a 2-0 home win over Nashville SC Saturday night, while Minnesota United (5W-4L-3D) raced out to a two-goal halftime lead only to settle for a 2-2 draw with the Houston Dynamo.


In the last meeting between the teams, the Loons advanced to the MLS is Back Tournament quarterfinals on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw with Crew SC. Gyasi Zardes equalized for Columbus in the second after Robin Lod gave Minnesota an early lead.

Zardes set up Pedro Santos for the opening goal and added a stoppage-time insurance goal in a 2-0 win over Nashville Saturday. The US men's national team forward has four goals and two assists in his last three games and nine goals and three assists on the season. 


"He’s really in great form right now," Crew head coach Caleb Porter said following the match about Zardes. "I tell him every day because in training he’s playing as well as I’ve ever seen him play and he has a lot of confidence."

Minnesota United


The Loons led 2-0 at the break courtesy of goals by Kevin Molino and Lod. But the Dynamo struck twice after the break to rally for a 2-2 home draw. Adrian Heath's side have seven points from their last four games and now welcome one of the league's best strikers in Kei Kamara to the fold following a trade with the Colorado Rapids. 


“I’m hoping that a little bit of mentorship and a little bit of understudy from Mason [Toye] watching a guy that has scored goals consistently within the league,” Heath said after the game Saturday of Kamara. “And, not only that, his strength and personality is something that people have spoke to us about over the last week or so since this has been going on. So, delighted that we’ve done the deal. We felt it was something that we couldn’t turn down in the current circumstances. And, we think he’ll be a big, big asset for us.”
