TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

D.C. United have reportedly turned to Uruguayan international Gaston Silva to help fill the need for defensive help.

According to reports out of Argentina, D.C. are set to make a formal offer for the 25-year-old who competes for Club Atletico Independiente in Argentina’s Primera Division.

However, the Washington Post's Steven Goff noted his skepticism there was anything to the report:

Silva, a left back who can also play centrally on the backline, is in his third season with Independiente and has made 13 appearances this season.

Silva, who has dual Uruguayan and Italian citizenship, came up through the youth ranks of Defensor Sporting and made his professional debut at age 16 in Nov. 2011. He moved to Serie A side Torino and moved to Spanish side Granada on loan in August 2016.

Silva, who signed with Independiente in 2017 after a failed move to Pumas UNAM, has been capped 19 times for Uruguay with his last appearance coming in an international friendly against South Korea in Oct. 2018. He was called up for the last six friendlies in 2019, but didn’t step onto the field.
