Sporting arguably the most complete roster in MLS, New York City FC have high expectations for their the Concacaf Champions League debut and will face fellow newcomers San Carlos in the opening leg of the Round of 16. The biggest changes this offseason for NYCFC occurred off the field, with David Lee taking over as sporting director and Ronny Deila replacing Dome Torrent as head coach. The Cityzens expect to be heavy favorites against a San Carlos side that captured the Costa Rican Clausura for the first time last year.

However, San Carlos may have a few tricks up their sleeve. They announced on Jan. 17 that they have added forward Omar Browne, who spent most of 2019 with the Montreal Impact after a star turn in the CCL that saw his Panamanian side, Independiente, upset Toronto FC.
