– Seattle Sounders FC forward Clint Dempsey was voted the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the 19
th
week of the 2017 MLS season.
Dempsey scored two goals and added an assist in Seattle’s 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids on July 4 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, extending the club’s unbeaten mark to three straight games. The second leading goalscorer in United States Men’s National Team history, Dempsey now has seven goals and two assists for Sounders FC this season. With the victory, Seattle now sits in seventh place in the Western Conference standings with 24 points (7-7-3 overall record).
A three-time World Cup participant with the United States, Dempsey gave Seattle an early 1-0 lead in the eighth minute, receiving a pass from teammate Joevin Jones in the middle of the box and firing a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Tim Howard (

). Dempsey would add an assist to his day in the 30

minute, fully extending his right foot to redirect a cross towards Will Bruin, who finished with a right-footed shot to give Seattle the 2-0 advantage (

With Sounders FC up late in the match, Dempsey iced the game with a tremendous goal to give Seattle a 3-1 lead in the 85
th
minute. Bruin headed goalkeeper Stefan Frei’s long goal kick down the field, setting up Dempsey’s dazzling left-footed shot from well outside the box to complete the brace (
