MLS-affiliated USL clubs learn their US Open Cup second round matchups

MLS-affiliated USL clubs learned their opponents for the second round of the 2017 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup on Wednesday night, as 27 lower division sides advanced out of the opening round of the tournament to take on USL and NASL clubs on May 17.


USL clubs owned and operated by MLS teams are not eligible to participate in the tournament, but those that merely have affiliations with MLS sides can compete in the Open Cup. Their second round matchups are listed below.


MLS teams will enter the tournament in the fourth round, which is slated to begin on June 14. These are the third-round scenarios:

Atlanta Silverbacks (NPSL) vs. Charleston Battery (USL/Atlanta United FC)
Richmond Kickers (USL/D.C. United) vs. Christos FC (Amateur)
Charlotte Eagles (PDL) vs. Charlotte Independence (USL/Colorado Rapids)
Grand Rapids FC (NPSL) or Chicago FC United (PDL)* vs. Pittsburgh Riverhounds (USL/Columbus Crew SC)
Tulsa Roughnecks FC (USL/Chicago Fire) vs. Oklahoma City Energy U-23 (PDL)
