MLS Fantasy Round 2 tinted orange, black and blue as Dynamo, Impact romp

Every soccer manager worth their salt is out there looking for a winger to take their attack to the next level. But this week, MLS Fantasy Managers were wise to rely on a Wenger.

As expected after the Houston Dynamo's dominant 5-0 defeat of FC Dallas, the Orange were well represented in this round’s Dream Team. Andrew Wenger let all fantasy players with a 16-point performance, goal-scoring defender David Horst was right behind him, and clean sheet goalkeeper (whatchu talkin' 'bout) Joe Willis rounded out Houston’s top fantasy guys.

The boys in Montreal continue to have a big Impact on this year’s MLS Fantasy game. Their 3-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls saw Ignacio Piatti make the Dream Team for a second straight week. He was joined by defenders Donny Toia and Laurent Ciman.

Forwards fought back this week with David Villa, Dom Dwyer and Sebastian Giovinco pushing the dream team into a 3-4-3 formation. It’s been fun seeing how the rule changes often turn goals from target forwards into six-point affairs, as the goals come along with four or more shots. Dwyer picked up a 2-point shot bonus to go with his brace.

Patrick Pepin and his MLS Fantasy team the Thunders scored a 113 to win this round. Eight points clear of his closest competitor, the Thunders had Villa captained and featured Dream Teamers Giovinco, Piatti and Ciman. Congrats on the win and enjoy your prize!

Round 3 is another regular week in MLS Fantasy. New York City host Orlando City in the short-rest "Viernes de Futbol" game on Friday, which is always good for some fireworks. Chasing the four-goal performance LA posted in Round 1 didn’t work out so well for fantasy managers, and I’d advise caution in chasing Houston’s performance as they travel to a New York Red Bulls side trying to shake off early-season rust.

Bonus Points

Four teams have a double match week in Round 4, so start making your transfers in anticipation. D.C. United, FC Dallas, the New England Revolution and Vancouver Whitecaps are the teams playing twice. There are some good players to choose from that lot, including:

Diego Fagundez ($8.2m) - He backslid from his opening-round 17-point performance in the Revolution’s goalless home opener, but he’ll get a chance to bounce back in Round 4 with the Revs doing the New York double.

Mauro Diaz ($10.2m) - Another player who fell off from a good opening-round performance, Dallas gets a chance to set the ship right with a visit from road warriors Montreal this weekend, then have the potential bounty of their double with a trip to D.C. United and a home game vs. Columbus.

Pedro Morales ($10.6m) - He’s managed a goal and an assist so far, and the Whitecaps don’t leave Cascadia for a fortnight. They’ve got the rivalry match in Seattle this round, then play both their matches in the double round at home. The exchange rate should be quite favorable.
