MLS Disciplinary Committee suspends Portland Timbers Diego Chara additional game for violent conduct

The MLS Disciplinary Committee annouced on Friday that it has fined Portland Timbers midfielder Will Johnson an undisclosed amount for simulation in the 29th minute of Portland’s match against Houston on August 21, 2015 (VIDEO).

In addition, D.C. United forward Jairo Arrieta was fined an undisclosed amount for simulation in the 74th minute of D.C.’s match against San Jose on August 22, 2015 (VIDEO).

Lastly, in the 91st minute of Portland’s match against Houston, Timbers defender Diego Chara received a red card for his foul on Houston forward Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres. Upon review of the play, the MLS Disciplinary Committee determined that the play was violent conduct that endangered the safety of his opponent (VIDEO). In addition to the automatic one-game suspension and fine that accompanies a red card, Chara received an additional one-game suspension (two games total) and an additional undisclosed fine.

Through the MLS Players Union, Chara submitted an appeal and the Committee’s decision was upheld.
