USMNT to play Group C third-place finishers Cuba in CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals on Saturday

The USMNT officially know their opponent for Saturday’s CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal.

For the first time since diplomatic relations between the two countries were restored in December, the Americans will face Cuba on the soccer field, taking on Group C’s third-place finishers at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore (5 pm ET, FOX/Univision/UDN in the US, SN World in Canada).

Cuba beat Guatemala 1-0 in their group stage finale on Wednesday to take third-place in Group C. They finished the group stage with a 1-2-0 record, with their three points tied with Panama for most among third-place teams at the tournament.

The US finished atop Group A, beating Honduras and Haiti and drawing Panama to finish group play with a 2-0-1 record.

The winner of Saturday’s match will take on the winner of Saturday’s Jamaica-Haiti quarterfinal (8 pm ET, FOX Sports 2/Univision/UDN in the US, SN World in Canada) in the Gold Cup semifinals in Atlanta next Wednesday.
