American Exports: Xolos rally for win over Pachuca, but Greg Garza limps off injured

Greg Garza on the run for Tijuana

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – US international Greg Garza had a match to forget for Club Tijuana on Friday night. Yes, Xolos came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against Pachuca in the Liga MX’s Clausura 2015.

But the 23-year-old was given a difficult time by Pachuca right winger Jurgen Damm and was slack marking Diego de Buen when he manage to bundle the ball over the line for Pachuca’s opener in the 12th minute.

And then four minutes before halftime, Garza was then substituted out after picking up what looked to be a knock to his lower right leg. There has been no news, as yet, on the extent of the injury, but the left back didn’t appear down in his message on social media after the match.

Joe Corona was introduced for Garza as coach Daniel Guzmán switched up the Xolos team and the midfielder helped Tijuana keep the ball better in the second half.

Corona added some energy from his central midfield position and linked up the play as Xolos stormed back after the break.

The win extended Tijuana’s undefeated run to 12 matches in all competitions and sees the border team maintain its spot at the top after eight games of the Clausura.

In Mexico’s second division, Sonny Guadarrama went 78 minutes in Atlante’s 3-3 home draw with Celaya, while Emanuel Guzman completed the full match for Merida in its 3-0 win over Mineros de Zacatecas.
