World Cup: Red card rules out Belgium's Steven Defour for Round of 16 matchup vs. USA

The USA have one less Belgium player to worry about in the Round of 16.

Central midfielder Steven Defour was sent off just before halftime in the Belgians' Group H finale vs. South Korea after digging his studs into the leg of forward Kim Shin-Wook.

But it's not like Defour was ever a candidate to start in the Round of 16. With qualification to the knockout rounds already in hand, Belgium manager Marc Wilmots rested five starters in the match against South Korea. Defour, who was making his first start of the World Cup, was filling in for usual starter Axel Witsel.

The USA will be familiar with Defour, who started Belgium's 4-2 friendly match victory in Cleveland on May 29, 2013.

Belgium's 1-0 win over the Koreans gives them the top spot in Group H, which means they will play the USA on Tuesday, July 1, in Salvador at 4 pm ET in the final Round of 16 matchup of the 2014 World Cup.
