But it's not like Defour was ever a candidate to start in the Round of 16. With qualification to the knockout rounds already in hand, Belgium manager Marc Wilmots rested five starters in the match against South Korea. Defour, who was making his first start of the World Cup, was filling in for usual starter Axel Witsel.

The USA will be familiar with Defour, who started Belgium's 4-2 friendly match victory in Cleveland on May 29, 2013.

Belgium's 1-0 win over the Koreans gives them the top spot in Group H, which means they will play the USA on Tuesday, July 1, in Salvador at 4 pm ET in the final Round of 16 matchup of the 2014 World Cup.
