American Exports: Bob Bradley invites familiar face for Stabaek trial: Freddy Adu

AMSTERDAM – Free agent playmaker Freddy Adu has begun a two-week trial with Norwegian side Stabæk, coached by fellow American Bob Bradley.

The 25-year-old, who last saw the field for Brazlian side Bahia in August of 2013, has actually been in the sights of his former US boss since January.

"Freddy came to Oslo on Saturday, he will stay with up for a couple of weeks," Stabæk sporting director Inge André Olsen told "It will be interesting to see if he is fit and can help us.

"We stayed in touch with Freddy since the winter. But then it was not the right time to bring him. Now, it is the right time."

Olsen gave all the scouting credit to Bradley, who capped Adu 15 times during his tenure as US national team manager. The player responded with two goals and four assists in those games.

"Bob has had success with Freddy in the past," Olsen said. "We hope he does well [over these two weeks], and hopefully he will also want to be a part of Stabæk."

The well-traveled Adu played with D.C. United, Real Salt Lake and the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer, and has also had stints in Europe with Benfica, Monaco, Belenenses, Aris FC and Rizespor. He has notched 34 goals and 25 assists in 213 professional games.
