Chivas USA appeal Agustin Pelletieri red card, but one-game suspension will stand

Midfielder Agustín Pelletieri will serve a one-game suspension for his red card foul during a match against the Vancouver Whitecaps last weekend after an appeal filed by Chivas USA was denied by an independent review panel.

Pelletieri received the red card from head referee Ramon Hernandez for a hard tackle on Vancouver’s Pedro Morales in the 13th minute of the match (above).

An independent panel consisting of one representative from the U.S. Soccer Federation, Canadian Soccer Association, and Professional Referees Organization (PRO) was not unanimous that the referee incorrectly identified the offense or that the sanction applied was incorrect.

As a result, the appeal will not be upheld, and Pelletieri will miss Chivas USA’s match on Saturday at FC Dallas.
