Eva Longoria tweets support for online petition aiming to bring MLS team to San Antonio | SIDELINE

On Wednesday, we brought you a story about a fan-led petition circulating the Internet with the intention of bringing a Major League Soccer team to San Antonio.

At the time of posting that story, the petition was just short of 1,500 signatures. Twenty-four hours later, it had crossed the 2,000-signature threshold.

And on Thursday, San Antonio fans' #MLSReady campaign got a significant social media push, to the tune of nearly 7 million followers receiving word of the petition.

Eva Longoria, a Texas native and former star of television dramas The Young and the Restless and Desperate Housewives, was married to San Antonio Spurs point guard and soccer-loving Frenchman Tony Parker from 2007-2011.

The 31-year-old Parker often talks about his love of the game and has played in the past in Vancouver Whitecaps owner Steve Nash's annual celebrity soccer game. He has played his entire 13-year NBA career in San Antonio.

San Antonio has a metro population of more than 2.2 million, the 25th largest in the United States. Furthermore, the Spurs are the only competing major sports league team in the city, which is a setup that has worked out well for cities like Portland and Orlando on their way to MLS expansion.

Longoria remains active with Eva's Heroes, a charitable organization based in San Antonio aimed to help teens and young adults who have intellectual special needs, and to integrate and flourish in society.
