Africa locked in its first participants on Saturday and Sunday, as Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Cameroon captured places with aggregate wins against Ethiopia, Senegal and Tunisia. The remaining two CAF places will be determined on Monday when Bob Bradley's Egypt host Ghana facing a 6-1 deficit from the first leg and Algeria look to overturn a 3-2 loss to Burkina Faso.

Four European slots are still to be determined, with Portugal, Ukraine and Greece holding first-leg advantages against Sweden, France and Romania while Iceland and Croatia must break a scoreless deadlock. Meanwhile, Mexico and Uruguay look all but assure places in Brazil after jumping to commanding leads against New Zealand and Jordan.
