USWNT's Abby Wambach breaks Mia Hamm's all-time international goalscoring record

Abby Wambach is all alone at the top.

The US women's national team star hit a hat trick within 30 minutes in their friendly against South Korea at Red Bull Arena on Thursday night to surpass women's soccer icon Mia Hamm as the all-time leading scorer in international soccer, men's or women's. Wambach added a fourth goal later in the half to take her goal total to 160, two greater than Hamm's previous record of 158.

The US would go on to win the game 5-0 as Lauren Cheney added one more goal in the second half.

Hamm tweeted out the following after Wambach's record-breaking goal:

Wambach debuted for the USWNT in 2003 and has appeared in three Women's World Cups and two Olympic Games and has scored in each of those competitions, collecting two Olympic gold medals and playing a key role on the team that fell to Japan on penalties in the final of the 2011 World Cup.

She currently plays her club soccer for the Western New York Flash in the newly formed National Women's Soccer League, where she leads the league in scoring with six goals in seven appearances so far in the 2013 season.
