Birmingham City's Jonathan Spector

AMSTERDAM – Birmingham City handyman Jonathan Spector has spurned some competing Premier League interest to re-sign, inking a two-year deal with the St. Andrews side.

Sources close to the situation told MLSsoccer.com that the 27-year-old made the decision to stay because he feels comfortable at the club as well as to ensure consistent playing time in the season leading up to 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Though bothered by a few injuries last season, Spector started in 25 of his 29 Championship appearances. Most often working from central midfield, the Illinois native has worked 77 contests across all competitions since arriving from West Ham United in the summer of 2011.

Spector and Birmingham City will open the new season with an August 3 visit from Watford.
