Toronto FC announced Thursday that the club has placed midfielder and Canadian international Terry Dunfield on waivers, ending his nearly two-year stint with the club.

“This was a difficult decision to make but our midfielders have been playing well, and there are young players to develop and find minutes for,” TFC head coach Ryan Nelsen said in a statement. “We felt this was the best decision for both the club and Terry moving forward. On behalf of everyone at Toronto FC, we’d like to thank Terry for his contributions to the club and wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Dunfield, 31, was originally acquired in a trade with the Vancouver Whitecaps un July 2011. He made 56 combined appearances in MLS league play, CONCACAF Champions League, and the Amway Canadian Championship, while adding six goals for Toronto FC.
