Round 12 of MLS Fantasy Soccer: Manager was intriguing for a number of reasons. Several ejections were handed out and a lot of goals were scored, the second-most in any round so far. If you went with an offensive lineup, you likely reaped huge rewards. Defenders may bring you consistency, but the midfielders and forwards bring you glory. Will you continue to play it safe or take a risk and stack the deck offensively?
Here’s the breakdown from a crazy week in Fantasy Soccer: Manager.

Top Players: Landon Donovan – 19 points
Defenders (3)
Defenders have been some of the most consistent players in FS:M this year, but they don’t produce high point totals like the rest of the field does. Twelve defenders grabbed eight points or more this week, but only three scored in double digits: Sheanon Williams (13), Michel (12) and Bakary Soumaré (10). Two of these players needed two games to do it. So if you’re trying to make up ground on the rest of the field, is it wise to keep going with five at the backline? Midfielders (5)
The midfielders proved that they can be among the best any given week. Landon Donovan had another huge performance, leading all players with 19 points overall – 17 of them coming in the Galaxy’s 4-1 rout on the Philadelphia Union last Wednesday night. Eight midfielders notched double-digit point totals and Ned Grabavoy was the second-best with 13 points. Lamar Neagle had a huge week for the Sounders, scoring 12 points on two goals. It took Amobi Okugo two games to match the same feat. Sébastien Le Toux was back with too, scoring 11 points in two games with the Union. Tim Cahill and Will Johnson (not pictured) each grabbed 11 points as well. See the complete list of midfielders here.
Forwards (2)
Eddie Johnson and Robbie Keane were the forwards to own this round. Keane tallied 16 points in two outings while Johnson grabbed 12 points in just one game. It was a pretty good round for a few of the big names. Jack McInerney (10) and Federico Higuaín (8) each performed, but for Thierry Henry, Will Bruin and Chris Wondolowski, it was a down week. Goalkeeper – Zac MacMath (9 points)
MacMath had a terrible game against the Galaxy on Wednesday (0 points), but bounced back in a big way against the Chicago Fire on Saturday. Andy Gruenebaum also tallied nine points. Only four teams logged clean sheets this round. See which goalkeepers were the best in week 12.
Congratulations to S F Wray (BSC) who finished Round 12 with 128 points. Wray had six players score double-digit tallies. He also had five players on his team that were in this week’s DT. Wray Captained Landon Donovan and now ranks No. 1 overall in FS:M with 940 total points.
