American Exports: Tim Howard posts first clean sheet at Arsenal as Everton draw

AMSTERDAM – Tim Howard posted his first shutout at Arsenal on Tuesday, ably backstopping Everton to a 0-0 draw.

The US star needed only two saves, the best coming near halftime to deny Santi Cazorla from point-blank range. Despite extending their EPL unbeaten streak to six games, the Toffees did miss a chance to pull level on points with Chelsea and Tottenham for the fourth and final Champions League berth.

One flight down in the Championship, Stuart Holden's form recovery continued with a 60-minute outing in Sheffield Wednesday's 0-0 stalemate at Blackpool. The point earned nudged the Owls clear of the drop zone.

Zak Whitbread made a stoppage-time cameo as Leicester City wrested away the last promotion playoff slot with a 3-2 win over guests Bolton. Tim Ream watched from the away dugout as Wanderers slipped one point back in seventh place.

Finally, in Austria's ÖFB-Cup, Terrence Boyd worked a quiet 74-minute shift as Rapid Vienna's woes continued with a 1-0 quarterfinal defeat to visiting third-flight mites Pasching. The Green-Whites have now won just once in their last 10 matches across all competitions.
