Goat Notes: No rush to activate F Bowen after loan return

Chivas USA's Tristan Bowen

CARSON, Calif. – With the June 27 transfer deadline opening, Chivas USA have the option to activate forward Tristan Bowen after his loan in Belgium. But don’t look for a decision just yet.

The 21-year-old forward, who is currently nursing an ankle sprain, has been training with the club since returning from a year-long stint with Belgian second-division side KSV Roeselare in mid-May.

Although Bowen has become a fixture at Chivas' training sessions, the club is looking to take its time before deciding whether or not to activate the young forward.

“It’s among the consideration of things we have to do,” head coach Robin Fraser told reporters earlier in the week. “I don't feel like we're under a real time constraint, so certainly we'll make the decision when we feel the decision is right.”

Bolaños injury better than first feared

Miller Bolaños may have re-injured his right hamstring during the Goats’ US Open Cup victory over the Charlotte Eagles on Tuesday, but the club expects the dynamic Ecuadorian midfielder back on the field soon.

The injury came in the 38th minute as the Rojiblancos began a foray up field; Bolaños was unable to keep up and began holding the same right hamstring that had plagued him for the past several weeks.  A minute later, he was pulled off the field for Juan Agudelo.

Bolaños’ injury was perhaps the lowest point in a victory that saw the club advance to the semifinals of the Open Cup for the second time in franchise history. But while Bolaños’ injury was serious enough to force him from the match, with a week off, Fraser feels that the injury isn’t as severe as once feared.

“It seems as if it’s not as bad as it was,” Fraser said after the Open Cup victory. “But it’s certainly something we have to watch.”

Chivas U-17/U-18s advance to USSDA finals week

The Rojiblancos’ U-17/18 side advanced to US Soccer Development Academy Finals Week on Thursday with a 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls.

Forward Ben Spencer scored the lone goal of the afternoon as the club was able to advance as leader of Group 6 with total of seven points in three games. It has been a strong week for the young Goats, who earned a pair of wins earlier in the week with a 2-1 win over the Charlotte Soccer Academy on Monday and a 4-3 victory over the New England Revolution on Tuesday.

USSDA Finals week will take place in Houston from July 16-23.
