Impact set to reveal 2012 MLS kit in early December

Montreal Impact will be the 19th MLS team in 2012.

MONTREAL — With four months remaining until the start of the 2012 campaign, one of the biggest mysteries still to come for the Montreal Impact should draw the most interest yet: the kit.

Impact executive vice president Richard Legendre told MLSsoccer.com this week the club intends to reveal its inaugural Impact MLS kit on Dec. 1 at a ceremony at the Centre-des-Sciences, in Old Montreal.

Beyond that, however, he’s not saying much.

“I can’t tell you much,” Legendre said with a laugh. “The only detail I can give you is that there will be elements in the shirt that the fans will definitely appreciate. I can also tell you that there will probably be more than one.”

The shirt will be made available on Dec. 2, and Legendre also confirmed that a store will be opened at the club’s new sales offices located on University Street.

“We’ve always wanted to be downtown, even more so during the offseason,” he said. “Having a store downtown is a good step forward for us.”

The club is also expected to launch its new website on Nov. 17, and then take part in the MLS Expansion Draft on Nov. 23.

Next up for Legendre, meanwhile, is a trip to Los Angeles, where he will accompany club president Joey Saputo at MLS Cup 2011. Both will be looking to build on the hype surrounding the arrival of the 19th franchise.

“It’s a good opportunity to see what the others are doing,” Legendre said. “People are genuinely excited about us joining the league. Montreal has a special vibe and aura.”
