AMSTERDAM — The Egyptian Football Association is set to decide next week on whether it will ante up to sign Bob Bradley as their new national-team manager, MLSsoccer.com has learned.
The erstwhile US boss was almost immediately targeted by the Pharaohs as a first-choice candidate after his dismissal in late July. Bradley flew to Egypt for a successful interview two weeks ago, but the sides were on different pages with regards to salary.
Egyptian daily El-Ahram reported that the FA opened with an offer of nearly $700,000 annually, while Bradley was asking for a sum a bit closer to seven figures.
"They will decide next week if they can find a contract," Egypt press officer Azmi Megahed told MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday.
Megahed also reiterated the earlier stance that Bradley was the federation's favorite to succeed Hassan Shehata. The three-time defending African Cup of Nations coach resigned in June after a poor start to 2012 qualifying.
Egypt have an ANC qualifier away to Kei Kamara's Sierra Leone on Sept. 2, meaning Bradley could actually take the job mere hours before his first game in change. The holders must win that match next Friday to have any chance of qualifying for next year's finals ahead of Group G closing-day visitors Niger.
