Report: Winter to be named TFC's technical director

Aron Winter

Former Holland midfielder and current Ajax reserve team coach Aron Winter has told Dutch media he has a "good feeling" TFC will name him as their technical director.

"Of the three candidates, I made the best impression," Winter said. "Everything came about around the New Year."

Dutch daily De Telegraaf reported that Winter will fly to Canada on Monday alongside "right-hand man" Bob de Klerk, who is currently in charge of Ajax's youth team.

Winter scored six goals in 84 appearances for the Dutch national team between 1987-2000, and he remains the seventh-highest capped player for the Oranje. His club career saw him suit up for Ajax, Lazio and Inter Milan.

Also linked with a move to Toronto's coaching staff is former New England assistant Paul Mariner, who recently left his managerial position at England's Plymouth Argyle.
