Colombian sensation and Seattle Sounders striker Freddy Montero named FutbolMLS.com's 2010 MVP Latino

NEW YORK – After three weeks of searching for FutbolMLS.com’s MVP Latino, fans have voted and elected Colombian sensation and Seattle Sounders striker Fredy Montero as the winner.


The Cafetero forward, who is acclaimed and applauded by Seattle Sounders’ passionate fans, had their support since the beginning of the contest, leading the ballots and defeating opponents such as the New York Red Bulls’ Rafa Márquez and Juan Pablo Angel, D.C. United’s Andy Najar, Real Salt Lake’s Alvaro Saborio, Columbus Crew’s Guillermo Barros Schelotto, and FC Dallas’ David Ferreira.


A week after the contest kicked off, the list of 10 players was cut to five, where fans had the opportunity to vote for Marquez, Schelotto, Najar, Saborio and Montero, being the Colombian who led the ballots during that week.


In the final week, Montero was facing off 2010 MLS Rookie of the Year Andy Najar and 2010 MLS Newcomer of the Year Alvaro Saborio, winning the contest by capturing a dominant 79 percent of the total votes versus the 13 percent obtained by the Costa Rican forward and the 8 percent captured by the Honduran midfielder.


Congratulations to Fredy Montero, who had a great season by scoring 10 goals and 10 assists, and also has become a fan favorite by earning the honors as the best Latino player of 2010 in MLS.
