American Exports: Edu, Rangers hold Man. Utd

Maurice Edu and Rangers held Wayne Rooney and Manchester United to only three shots on goal.

AMSTERDAM – The start of Champions League group-stage play involved a pair of Americans on Tuesday, with Maurice Edu working 90 strong minutes as Rangers pocketed a point in Group C with a 0-0 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The determined Light Blues held their favored hosts to three shots on goal despite ceding 64 percent of possession on the night.

Meanwhile, over in Group B, 90-minute man Jermaine Jones was solid in the middle as Schalke fell 1-0 at Lyon.

The lone goal of the game came midway through the first frame when Benedikt Höwedes put into his own net trying to deal with a foul-up between right back Christoph Moritz and keeper Manuel Neuer.

Things got rougher for the Miners when Höwedes was shown a harsh straight red card seven minutes before halftime.
