United for D.C. kicks it for kids

WASHINGTON, D.C. - United for D.C., the charitable arm of D.C. United, announced today the continuation of its signature program, Kicks for Kids, for the 2005 season. Through Kicks for Kids, area non-profit organizations and other community-based groups that serve at-risk, disadvantaged or inner-city children may receive tickets free-of-charge to any regular season D.C. United home match. In addition to complimentary tickets, Kicks for Kids also provides free meal vouchers for each youth in attendance at the games as well as special Kicks for Kids giveaway items.

"Kicks for Kids is a tremendous asset for over one hundred area non-profit organizations that work with under-served youth," said Catherine Marquette, Executive Director of United for D.C. and Community Relations Director for D.C. United. "United for D.C. would like to thank the ten Kicks for Kids corporate benefactors which have, to date, provided support for this initiative for the 2005 season. It is our hope to impact thousands of youth from April to October through the Kicks for Kids program."

Various civic-minded corporations and foundations have donated dollars to support Kicks for Kids along various sponsor levels. The Colburn Family Foundation and AmeriGroup are both World Cup-level supporters of Kicks for Kids; adidas America, AOL, Cox Communications, GEICO and Jones Day are all Black-and-Red partners; and Brotman Winter Fried, Miller & Long and The Screaming Eagles support Kicks for Kids at the Supporters level.

Over one hundred non-profit and other community-based organizations participate each year in Kicks for Kids. Upon completing an application, these agencies are eligible to receive vouchers that are then redeemable for tickets to a pre-arranged D.C. United match. When they arrive at RFK Stadium with their benefiting kids, the vouchers are exchanged for game tickets, and they receive other vouchers that can be redeemed inside of RFK Stadium for a free meal - a hot dog, chips and a soda - for each attendee. In addition, Kicks for Kids giveaway items and other D.C. United promotions are distributed from the Kicks for Kids check-in booth.
