MLS: Week 11 in review

Josh Gros

his second goal -- giving them a 2-2 draw with the Wizards.

Cunningham put the Crew ahead on 27 minutes with some wonderful individual skill, racing between defender Nick Garcia and the byeline before toe-poking his shot home from an impossible angle on the left. But the visitors scored twice within three minutes before the break, both from headers by central defenders directly off corner kicks from the right, first Jimmy Conrad (21) and then Shavar Thomas (24).

But seven minutes from the final whistle, Cunningham was pulled down with a shirt tug by Garcia and stepped up to take his only penalty, driving the ball under Meola's dive to the right for his fourth goal in three games.

At RFK Stadium, D.C. United and the Rapids played to a dour scoreless draw. Rapids 'keeper Joe Cannon was called upon to make eight saves on the evening, but despite missing both first-choice center backs the Rapids defense soaked up all the pressure and was not beaten.

For United, they saw their scoreless run pass four hours as they remained winless for the fourth time in five matches, while the Rapids remained the only team to have a victory on the road this season.

On Wednesday, Colorado saw their MLS-record 16-match home unbeaten streak come to an end as Josh Wolff converted a penalty kick three minutes into second-half stoppage time for the only goal in a Wizards victory.

Chris Klein split a pair of defenders with a through ball for Wolff and the U.S. international was brought down by defender Nat Borchers. Referee Andrew Chapin -- running the center for the first time in an MLS match -- immediately whistled the penalty and sent off Borchers. Wolff took his own penalty, blasting it down the center of the goal past Rapids 'keeper Joe Cannon for his fourth goal of the season.
