Metros to get physical vs. Revs

Chris Leitch

can we reproduce that?" said Metros keeper Zach Wells.

Added Leitch: "You're not going to win the league or go to the playoffs by winning one game here and one game there. It's got to be a consistent effort over the long stretch ... It's definitely going to be a challenge for us to replicate a good, hard-fought battle every game."

While Bob Bradley was predictably hush about who will be in his starting 11 Saturday, he did make one concession after Thursday's training session and said injured Jonny Walker was out.

Walker, who had been sidelined while recovering from offseason surgery to repair a rotator cuff, strained his left calf muscle in the MetroStars reserves 4-3 loss at Chicago on Sunday morning.

That means that Wells, who is second in the league behind Matt Reis with a 0.83 GAA, will be back between the posts.

Eddie Gaven and Tim Ward rejoined the team Thursday at Giants Stadium, with both getting in some jogging and stretching after helping lead the U.S. under-20 national team to a come-from-behind 2-1 win against Canada on Wednesday night in Minnesota. Gaven scored a goal and set up the other while Ward started and played the full 90 minutes.

If Bradley goes with the same lineup he did against Chicago, when he didn't make one substitution, then it will be Gaven and Mike Magee up top. John Wolyniec, Sergio Galvan Rey and even Abbe Ibrahim, who has scored four goals for the Metros reserve side, are options up top.

Whoever will be on the field, Bradley said he will be looking for them to put the Revs under pressure and push the pace of the game.

"We want to push it, make it a fast game, a high tempo game," Bradley said. "We want to put them in the kind of game they haven't been in this year. I think that's important."
