Lucky Quakes fan gets trip to Hawaii

Alie Vandaie (right) and his family meet Earthquakes President and General Manager Alexi Lalas.

Alie Vandaie is one lucky San Jose Earthquakes fan, and the Cupertino, Calif. resident has his free trip to Hawaii courtesy of Hawaiian Airlines and Aston ResortQuest Hawaii and the Quakes as proof. Vandaie was the winner of the Quakes "Win a Trip To Hawaii" contest on Wednesday, July 7 at the first-ever Hawaiian Night at Spartan Stadium. Vandaie will now enjoy a trip that includes round-trip airfare and a three-night stay at the Aston Waikiki.

"It's a great feeling to win," Vandaie said. "I felt lucky to be one of the four people picked out of thousands to compete. I have played soccer all of my life and when I saw what the competition was, I felt good about my chances. It was fun."

Vandaie was one of four contestants chosen at random to participate in the half-time contest. Vandaie won the trip after dribbling through a series of cones with the ball and nailing a pass the closest of any of the contestants to a flag planted in the middle of the field.

Vandaie will be joined in Hawaii by his wife Shahla and nine-year old daughter Tannaz.
