A Philadelphia native and former Union fan favorite, McCarthy became Miami's regular starter down the stretch of the 2020 season after Luis Robles went down with an injury. He had one clean sheet in eight appearances, helping guide the club to a postseason berth.

OUTSIDE MLS: McCarthy was the USL Pro Rookie of the Year in 2014 after a strong showing with Rochester Rhinos. He led the league with a 0.72 goals against average after allowing just 13 goals in 18 games. McCarthy posted an 8-4-6 record and had 10 shutouts with 41 saves. The 27-year-old goalkeeper most recently played for the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USL Championship. In 2019, his lone season with the club, he made 29 regular season appearances and kept 10 clean sheets.

COLLEGE: McCarthy was a four-year starter at La Salle, a three-time All-Atlantic 10 performer, an NSCAA Scholar All-American and was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy watch list heading into his senior year.
