One of the top Italian midfielders for more than a decade, playing as a deep-lying playmaker for AC Milan, Juventus and Italy's national team. Considered one of the world's top set-piece specialists. Pirlo didn't join NYCFC until after he finished chasing a UEFA Champions League Final with Juventus, but ended up third in MLS in minutes per pass. With a full preseason to gel with David Villa and Frank Lampard, Pirlo will hope to help transform the Bronx Side to legitimate contenders for MLS Cup in 2016.

INTERNATIONAL: Has played in three World Cups for Italy (2006, 2010, 2014) and has registered more than 100 caps for the Azzurri. Won the Bronze Ball (third best player) at the 2006 World Cup when Italy won their fourth world title.

OUTSIDE MLS: At the club level, Pirlo won six Serie A titles (2003-04, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15) playing for AC Milan and Juventus. He also won the UEFA Champions League twice while playing for the Rossoneri in 2003 and 2007.
