CHIVAS USA HOSTS EXPANSION SOUNDERS FC ON DISNEYLAND RESORT NIGHT THIS SATURDAY:
First-place Chivas USA welcomes back expansion Seattle Sounders FC this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. The Sounders are coming off a 1-1 home draw against the Columbus Crew and hold a record of 4-2-5 (W-L-T), for 17 points, while Chivas USA brings a 7-2-3 record, seven points ahead of Seattle. Chivas USA looks to rebuild its home winning streak after last Thursday's home loss to Chicago. CHIVAS USA TO OPEN SUPERLIGA 2009 AGAINST TIGRES UANL ON JUNE 20 AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER: Chivas USA has learned its schedule and opponents for SuperLiga 2009, the third annual competition that pits top soccer teams from Mexico and the United States against each other. The Red-and-White will open Group A action in SuperLiga on Saturday, June 20, when it hosts Mexican side Tigres UANL at 7:00 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center. The Red-and-White will then travel to face MLS foes the Chicago Fire on June 23 at Toyota Park, before returning home to host San Luis of Mexico on June 27 at 7:00 p.m. at The Home Depot Center. RED-AND-WHITE FALL TO LATE GOAL FROM EASTERN CONFERENCE LEADERS CHICAGO FIRE: Chivas USA allowed two late goals and fell to the Chicago Fire 3-2 last Thursday night in front of 20, 379 at The Home Depot Center. Fire midfielder Cuauhtémoc Blanco scored two goals on penalty kicks, the second deep into second-half injury time, to give Chicago the win. The loss was Chivas USA's first at home in 2009, dropping their record to 7-2-3 (W-L-T), 24 points, on the season. Chivas USA scored twice in the first half, Paulo Nagamura scored his fourth goal on the season, tied for team lead, and Maykel Galindo scored the second goal on a penalty kick, his first-ever penalty goal for Chivas USA and his second of the season.


GOALKEEPER ZACH THORNTON HOLDS MLS LEAD IN SHUTOUTS: Chivas USA goalkeeper Zach Thornton leads MLS in number of shutouts, with six, and has 64 shutouts in his career, one behind San Jose's Joe Cannon for second on the MLS all-time charts. In addition to shutouts, Thornton also set a new club record for consecutive minutes without conceding a goal earlier this year, going 401 minutes between April 22 and May 16, beating the Red-and-White's previous record of 334 minutes, set by Brad Guzan in 2006.


BORNSTEIN AND KLJESTAN NAMED TO U.S. NATIONAL TEAM AHEAD OF QUALIFIERS: Chivas USA's Jonathan Bornstein and Sacha Kljestan were named to the United States National Team's 24-man roster that will train in advance of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica on June 3 and Honduras on June 6. The squad, selected by head coach Bob Bradley, departed June 1 for San Jose, Costa Rica. The U.S. is in first place in the final round hexagonal with an undefeated 2-0-1 record. Costa Rica sits one point behind, while Honduras holds the third position. The top three teams will automatically qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. Bornstein has made a total of 14 appearances for the U.S., and Kljestan has 16.


CHIVAS USA SIGN YOUTH TEAM PRODUCT CESAR ZAMORA: On Thursday Chivas USA announced the signing of Cesar Zamora, an 18-year-old midfielder from Sylmar, Calif., and a product of the Chivas USA Youth System, to a Developmental Contract. Zamora, an outside midfielder who played with the Chivas USA U-18 Team during the past two seasons in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, becomes the third former Chivas USA youth player on the club's first-team roster, alongside local products Gerson Mayén (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Jorge Flores (Anaheim, Calif.).


INJURY UPDATE: In the latest injury news, Chivas USA added midfielder Cesar Zamora to the club's Disabled List, making the Sylmar, Calif. native ineligible to participate for six consecutive MLS matches. The latest Chivas USA injury update is below:
