Last Game
Earthquakes 2, Real Salt Lake 2; June 7, 2009; Pizza Hut Park, Frisco, Texas
Kenny Cooper's goal in the 87th minute answered a San Jose Earthquakes comeback with one for FC Dallas, leaving the teams in a 2-2 draw after a seesaw battle Sunday at Pizza Hut Park. FCD took an early lead on a 29th-minute goal by David Ferreira. After the halftime break, San Jose scored the next two off an own goal and an 82nd-minute strike by Arturo Alvarez, but the home side was able to salvage a point thanks to Cooper's strike five minutes later. Ferreira's tally, the first of his MLS career, came courtesy of a great feed by Jeff Cunningham from the right flank. The sequence began when Dax McCarty took a free kick and delivered a long ball to the feet of Cunningham. The 11-year veteran got inside of Earthquakes defender Michael Zaher and just inside the 18, executed a great pass to Ferreira, who was standing about a yard outside of the 6-yard box. Ferreira quickly knocked the ball squarely with his right foot, which glanced off San Jose goalkeeper Joe Cannon's hand before going into the side of the net. It took the visitors 40 minutes to log their first shot. It came when former Alvarez took a corner kick that was saved by FCD goalkeeper Ray Burse. In the 60th minute, the visitors pulled level as San Jose's Shea Salinas delivered a great free kick that ended up in the back of the net. The Grapevine, Texas native lined up about 30 yards from goal and struck a beautiful ball. FCD center back Pablo Ricchetti attempted to clear his effort with his head but the ball ended up in the back of the net for the equalizer. But it was the Earthquakes who scored next in the 82nd minute as Alvarez put his side up 2-1 with his fourth goal of the year. Amarikwa benefited from several deflections that went his way just outside the 18, and the ball then landed at Alvarez's feet. With defender Marcelo Saragosa pursuing, the former FCD midfielder launched one over the head of Burse and into the upper right corner of the net to give his side a 2-1 edge. But just five minutes later, Cooper netted his sixth goal of the year. After a great feed from Brek Shea, who got his first MLS assist on the goal, with Cannon out of the goal, Cooper was able to knock the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-2. San Jose got a nice boost in stoppage time when midfielder Darren Huckerby returned to the field. It was his first action since April 11 against Chicago. He had been bothered by a right quadriceps strain.

Last Match vs. Seattle
Sounders FC 2, Earthquakes 0; April 25, 2009; Qwest Field: Seattle, Wash.
The Earthquakes couldn't find the net on in a 2-0 loss to Seattle Sounders FC Saturday night in a Western Conference match at Qwest Field. Rookie Steve Zakuani scored a first-half goal and provided an assist on Brad Evans' early in the second half for Seattle. Goalkeeper Kasey Keller, who returned after missing one match for an April 11 red card, set an MLS record by starting the season without allowing a goal in 389 minutes. The Earthquakes put the heat on early with shot attempts in the fourth minute, the last of which came off the foot of Shea Salinas but it was blocked point-blank by Seattle's Jhon Kennedy Hurtado. Salinas wheeled and fired from the middle of the penalty area 13 yards away, but came up empty. The Earthquakes dodged a Sounders FC scoring chance in the 29th minute as Freddie Ljungberg caromed a shot through traffic and off teammate Jaqua. Ljungberg's 15-yard shot glanced off Jaqua and trickled just outside the left post. After a free kick, Sounders FC rookie Zakuani nailed a header at the right post for a 1-0 lead after a cross from Tyrone Marshall. Down 1-0, the Earthquakes nearly knotted the score when Ryan Johnson forced Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller to bat away a header on a corner kick in the 48th minute. Johnson almost snuck the ball into the upper right corner of the net on the corner from Arturo Alvarez. Then, no more than two minutes later, Seattle went up 2-0 in the 50th minute on Brad Evans' second goal of the season. Evans buried a 14-yard chance with Cannon drawn out to defend after passes from Steve Zakuani and Nate Jaqua.
