GALAXY CONTINUE ROAD TRIP - SET TO BATTLE D.C. UNITED AT RFK STADIUM: The Los Angeles Galaxy's extended road trip, which began on Wednesday July 27 in Foxborough, Massachusetts against the New England Revolution, makes its fifth stop this weekend when the club will battle MLS Cup 2004 Champions D.C. United at RFK Stadium. The Galaxy will be out for revenge after United handed them their first loss of 2005 at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills - a 1-0 defeat on July 23. The match between the two winningest sides in the history of Major League Soccer will be televised live throughout the Southland on FSN West, beginning with the Galaxy GameDay pregame show at 4 pm (PT) - and the game will kickoff at 4:30. It will also be available to Galaxy fans on the usual club's radio outlets live - the stations to tune in are KMPC 1540 am in English and KMXE 830 am in Spanish.
TRIO OF GALAXY PLAYERS CALLED IN FOR NATIONAL TEAM DUTY: Three Galaxy players have been called in to their national team this week as the final round of CONCACAF qualifying to the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany resumes. Goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, defender Chris Albright and forward Landon Donovan will all be with the USA as the Stars and Stripes host Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday, August 17, in East Hartford, Conn. Meanwhile, Costa Rica defender Michael Umaña, was not called in for the ticos crucial match against rivals Mexico on the same day in Mexico City and midfielder Guillermo "El Pando" Ramirez, the captain of the Guatemalan national team, will not be in action when the chapines meet Panama in Guatemala City - he will be serving a suspension.
GALAXY FANTASY CAMPERS HIT THE PITCH MONDAY: The First Annual Galaxy Youth Fantasy Camp is officially underway. The campers arrived this morning for a week of training alongside some their heroes at The Home Depot Center. The camp will include the involvement of Galaxy coaches and players, who will bring the kids through many aspects of their typical work. All youths participating will learn what it is like to be a Galaxy player, and enjoy a week full of fun and wonderful memories.
BACK-TO-BACK MATCHES AGAINST THE RIVAL EARTHQUAKES BECKON NEXT WEEK: The Galaxy and the San Jose Earthquakes will renew their heated rivalry not once, but twice next week, with both games being played on the Quakes home turf at Spartan Stadium. The first meeting between that week will be a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal affair and will be played on Wednesday, August 24 at 7:30 pm. The second match, slated for Saturday, August 27, will be an important MLS Western Conference tussle as both teams begin to jockey for playoff positioning. It will get underway at 8 pm and will be televised LIVE to a national audience on ESPN2. Galaxy fans used to listening to their favorite team on the radio will have the chance to do that as well. CLUB HOSTS FINAL COACHING SEMINAR OF 2005 ON AUGUST 25: The Galaxy will host their final coaching seminar of the year of Thursday, August 25, from 5-8 pm at The Home Depot Center. Former Galaxy and current U.S. Soccer assistant coaches Ralph Perez and Zak Abdel will teach defensive strategies and exercises for improving goalkeeping. The fee for the seminar is $50 and includes a ticket the Galaxy's home match on September 4 against the Chicago Fire. L.A. GALAXY CHALLENGE ADULT SOCCER TOURNAMENT SLATED FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND: The Galaxy are proud to announce the inaugural L.A. Galaxy Challenge Adult Soccer Tournament, which will be held on Labor Day Weekend (Saturday, Sept 3/Sunday, Sept. 4) at the San Bernardino Soccer Complex. The event will feature play in several Men's and Women's divisions - and costs $450 per team to enter. All teams are guaranteed a minimum of three games on professional maintained fields. TWO FIRST-HALF GOALS FOR FIRE TOO MUCH FOR GALAXY IN A 2-1 LOSS AT SOLDIER FIELD: Despite a valiant effort, the Los Angeles Galaxy fell to the Chicago Fire by a 2-1 score Saturday. Jesse Marsch dispatched a penalty kick for the home side in the 20th minute and John Thorrington netted his first career MLS goal and the eventual game winner on 38 minutes. Galaxy captain Peter Vagenas scored the Galaxy's only goal, heading Landon Donovan's 53rd-minute corner kick past Pickens. Though the Galaxy pressured the Fire defense for the remainder of the match, it was not be as the home side prevailed.
MAS GALAXY RETURNS FROM BREAK WEDNESDAY: Más Galaxy, the club's Spanish-Language radio talk show, resumes after taking a week off with the Galaxy-Chivas USA match played last Wednesday during its timeslot. The program, hosted by Troy Santiago, the Spanish-language voice of the Galaxy alongside www.MLSnet.com reporter and local soccer journalist Rene Romano, features an in-depth look at the Galaxy and their opponent each week. This week, a special emphasis will be placed on that day's World Cup qualifying matches, especially in the CONCACAF region.
