Weekly Update: Opening Day

Jonathan Bornstein and Chivas USA begin their 2008 regular season campaign Sunday in Dallas.

The 2008 season has finally arrived for Chivas USA, who will open this Sunday, March 30, at 12:00 noon PT against FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Tex. The match will be broadcast live nationally on TeleFutura in Spanish, and locally on FSN Prime Ticket in English, and will feature the 2008 debut of Chivas USA's blue jerseys, as FC Dallas will be wearing its red and white 'hoops'. Chivas USA is looking to overcome a tough record in Texas, where the team has traditionally struggled. The Red-and-White own an overall MLS record of 1-6-3 (W-L-T) in the Lone Star State against both FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo, faltered in Texas during this preseason, with four one-goal losses in the Texas Pro Soccer Festival near San Antonio, and dropped an exhibition against Tigres UANL of Mexico in Donna, Tex., on October 9, 2005. Chivas USA's lone win in Texas was a 1-0 victory over FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park on September 13, 2006, with the goal coming from midfielder Juan Pablo Garcia.

HOME OPENER ON APRIL 5 AGAINST REAL SALT LAKE: Less than a week after opening the season in Texas, Chivas USA will return to The Home Depot Center for its 2008 Home Opener at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, April 5. The match will be played against fellow 2005 expansion team Real Salt Lake, against whom Chivas USA owns a 6-2-3 record (W-L-T) all-time, winning all three matches against RSL last season. The match could feature a pair of players who joined the Red-and-White from RSL in trades during the offseason, in forwards Atiba Harris and Alecko Eskandarian, both of whom scored in Chivas USA's last preseason match this past Saturday. Tickets, starting at just $10, are available by calling 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or by visiting www.cdchivasusa.com, and fans buying two tickets or more will receive a free Chivas USA scarf for each ticket.

FC DALLAS UPDATE: Chivas USA squares off this Sunday against FC Dallas, against whom the Los Angeles team has a 3-5-3 all-time record (W-L-T). Last season, Chivas USA split the season series, with each team earning a 2-0 win in their home stadium in the first half of the season before playing to a 0-0 draw in Frisco, Tex., on October 11. Coming off a season in which Dallas finished third in the Western Conference behind Chivas USA and Houston, the 'Hoops' have added Mexican defender Duilio Davino in the offseason, as well as young Brazilian midfielder Andre Rocha to its squad. Like Chivas USA, Dallas won its final preseason game, beating Brazilian side Clube Atletico Paranaense for the second time in the month of March, winning 2-1 in Pizza Hut Park on Saturday night.
