U.S. OPEN CUP FINAL BERTH ON THE LINE WHEN GALAXY AND THUNDER COLLIDE THIS WEDNESDAY: The Los Angeles Galaxy, Champions of the 2001 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, host the Minnesota Thunder (USL - Division I) on Wednesday, September 14 (8 pm PT) at The Home Depot Center on the campus of Cal State University, Dominguez Hills with the winner earning a spot in the final on September 28. The clash will be the chance for the hosts to exact revenge for a shocking 1-0 quarterfinal loss to the Thunder in the 2004 edition of the single-elimination tournament. Tickets are available in the following seating categories, all of which feature deep discounts when compared to the same seats for Galaxy MLS regular season matches: Sidelines ($25), Corners ($15) and Endlines ($10). GALAXY TO MAKE ONLY VISIT OF 2005 TO KANSAS CITY SATURDAY FOR MATCH WITH WIZARDS: Just three days after their appearance in the Open Cup semifinal, the Galaxy hit the road to continue their 2005 MLS regular season schedule with a road game against the Kansas City Wizards at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday, September 17. The match, the first between the former MLS Western Conference rivals since conference realignment prior to the 2005 season, will kick-off at 5 pm (PT) and will broadcast live in Spanish on both radio (KMXE 830 am) and television (KWHY - Channel 22).
SEPTEMBER 17 & 21 ROAD GAMES WILL BE TELEVISED THROUGHOUT THE SOUTHLAND ON KWHY - CHANNEL 22: The Galaxy is pleased to announce that the club's next two road games - Saturday, September 17 at Kansas City and Wednesday September 21 at Dallas, will be televised on KWHY - Channel 22. The Saturday match will be carried LIVE at 5 pm (PT) and the Wednesday night contest will air tape-delayed starting at 8 pm - marking the third consecutive season the station has broadcast at least one Galaxy game. KWHY currently broadcasts Galaxy Deportivo, which airs each Saturday afternoon throughout the season.
QUAVAS KIRK TO REPRESENT THE USA AT FIFA UNDER-17 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN PERU: Galaxy 2005 MLS SuperDraft selection Quavas Kirk is a crucial member of the USA Under-17 national team that 2005 FIFA Under-17 World Championship from September 16-October 2 in Peru. Kirk is one of 20 players named to the side by head coach John Hackwork. The USA will kick off the tournament against North Korea on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10:45 am, before facing Italy on Tuesday, Sept. 20 (1:30 pm) and concluding group play against Ivory Coast on Friday, September 23 (1:30 pm). The USA will play their first two group matches against North Korea and Italy at Estadio Elias Aguirre in Chiclayo, before moving to Lima to face Ivory Coast in their third and final group match at Estadio Nacional.
GALAXY WIPE OUT RAPIDS 4-1 AT THE HOME DEPOT CENTER, MOVE INTO SECOND PLACE: Strike partners Landon Donovan and Herculez Gomez combined for a pair of goals in the first half, then Gomez added another in the second half as the Los Angeles Galaxy made a statement about their future down the stretch to the MLS Cup Playoffs with a 4-1 win against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night at The Home Depot Center on the campus of Cal-State Dominguez Hills. Combined with an FC Dallas loss to D.C. United earlier in the evening, the win propelled the Galaxy into second place in the Western Conference with five left to play in the regular season.
RAPIDS RESERVES TAME GALAXY RESERVES, 6-2, IN SUNDAY MATCH: The Colorado Rapids reserves defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy reserves, 6-2, on Sunday morning at The Home Depot Center on the Campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. Colorado forward Jean Philippe Peguero led all goal scorers with three tallies, while teammates Fabrice Noel, Wolde Harris and Lance Snodgrass added a goal apiece. On the other side, Los Angeles earned a goal in each half with strikes from Pando Ramirez and Mamba Chisoni.
DONATIONS FOR VICTIMS OF HURRICANE KATRINA TO BE COLLECTED AT REMAINING SEPTEMBER HOME GAMES: The Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation and The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation will partner with the Greater Long Beach chapter of the American Red Cross to collect donations of spare change for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, whose after-effects continue to ravage several areas along the Gulf Coast of the United States. The donations will be collected at the club's U.S. Open Cup Semifinal match against the Minnesota Thunder on the 14th and their MLS regular season match against the Kansas City Wizards on the 25th. In addition, monetary gifts will be accepted on non-game days in the reception area at The Home Depot Center. To launch the extensive fundraising campaign, the Galaxy Foundation made a contribution in the amount of $ 5,000 to the cause. In addition, AEG and The Home Depot Center Charitable Foundation have stepped up to give $2,500 apiece for the relief efforts.
