CHIVAS USA RETURNS HOME THIS SATURDAY TO HOST K.C. WIZARDS ON 'MANHATTAN BEACH NIGHT':
After three straight away games, in which the Red-and-White earned two wins and a loss, Chivas USA returns to host the Kansas City Wizards this Saturday night, Sept. 27, at 7:30 p.m. PT. Kansas City currently sits in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, just one point out of a spot in the playoffs, while the Red-and-White own the second spot in the Western Conference but are in the middle of a tight race in the division for the postseason. Families can also take advantage of Chivas USA's Family Pack, which gets you 4 tickets, 4 hats and 4 hotdogs starting at just $58. Chivas USA will also be celebrating Manhattan Beach Night, where city leaders will be greeted by Manhattan Beach resident Jesse Marsch and a special 'Parade of Champions' will give soccer-loving kids from Manhattan Beach the opportunity to walk around the field prior to the game. ENTERING STRETCH RUN, CHIVAS USA STRENGTHENS PLAYOFF HOPES WITH 1-0 WIN AT RSL:
An 72nd minute goal from Alecko Eskandarian and four saves from goalkeeper Dan Kennedy gave Chivas USA a 1-0 win on the road at Real Salt Lake on Saturday night, putting the Red-and-White in second place in the Western Conference with a record of 9-10-6 (W-L-T) and 33 points. However, with just four points separating teams two through seven in the division, the Red-and-White's final five regular-season matches will be critical as the team looks to secure a third straight playoff berth. After hosting Kansas City this Saturday night, Chivas USA hits the road for matches at D.C. United (Oct. 4) and the San Jose Earthquakes (Oct. 11) before returning home for the final two matches of the regular season, against the Colorado Rapids on Oct. 19 and the Houston Dynamo on Oct. 25. INJURY UPDATE: MARSCH RETURNS TO THE FIELD FOR THE RED-AND-WHITE:
Chivas USA vice-captain Jesse Marsch made his return to the field for Chivas USA this Saturday against Real Salt Lake when he entered the match as a 66th minute substitute for Ante Razov, helping the team to a 1-0 win. Marsch had been out since breaking his jaw in a blow to the face from the LA Galaxy's Sean Franklin in the match on Aug. 14. Also on Saturday, defender Jonathan Bornstein suffered a concussion during the first half of Saturday's 1-0 win at Real Salt Lake, and was replaced by Sasha Victorine at the start of the second half. Bornstein is day-to-day as he recovers from the head injury. On Sunday, defender Alex Zotinca also played his first match since tearing his ACL in a preseason match when he played 90 minutes in the Chivas USA Reserves 3-1 loss to the Real Salt Lake Reserves.
