The Red-and-White will look for success on the road as they travel to face FC Dallas this Sunday at 12:00 noon PT in a match that will be broadcast locally on Prime Ticket and nationally on TeleFutura. The match comes after Chivas USA earned a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Opening Day this past Saturday at The Home Depot Center, with Paulo Nagamura scoring both goals for the Red-and-White within a four minute span in the second half. The win gave Chivas USA its fourth consecutive win in its Home Opener match, and ties the team with Seattle Sounders FC atop the Western Conference. SACHA KLJESTAN NAMED TO U.S. ROSTER FOR UPCOMING WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS:
Chivas USA midfielder Sacha Kljestan was named last Friday to the United States National Team's 22-player roster for upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against El Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago. The U.S. first travels to El Salvador for the second match of the 10-game final round of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup, with kickoff set for 6:00 p.m. PT, live on ESPN2 and Telefutura. Four days later, U.S. welcomes Trinidad & Tobago to LP Field in Nashville, Tenn., with coverage beginning at 4:30 p.m. PT on ESPN2 and Galavision. The U.S. is tied for first place in the final round of qualifying after a 2-0 victory against Mexico on Feb. 11 in Columbus, Ohio, a match in which Kljestan played 86 minutes in central midfield. Kljestan joined the U.S. on March 22 in Miami, and will miss the Chivas USA match on March 29 at FC Dallas. INJURY UPDATE: GALINDO RETURNS TO THE FIELD:
After battling injuries in 2008, Chivas USA forward Maykel Galindo played his first match since Sept. 27, 2008 when he entered Saturday's match at the half and helped the Red-and-White score two second half goals en route to a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids. Alecko Eskandarian also recovered from a left hip strain to make the bench for Saturday's game. Several other players are still recovering from offseason surgeries and other injuries; goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, defenders Bobby Burling and Lawson Vaughn, and forward Ante Razov may come back in April, while midfielder Sasha Victorine could return from knee surgery in May. CHIVAS USA DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY TEAMS LOOK TO FACE FC PORTLAND SATURDAY:
The Chivas USA U-18 and U-16 Teams enjoyed a good Saturday, March 14 at Cerritos College, with the U-18's defeating Pateadores by a 4-2 score, and the U-16 squad earning a hard-fought 2-2 draw. For the U-18's, Victor Sanchez scored twice, and Bryan de la Fuente and Orr Baroush added a goal apiece, while the U-16's received goals from Yohel de Jesus and Angel Cholico. The teams were off this past weekend, and continue their homestand against FC Portland of Oregon on Saturday, March 28, with the U-16's kicking off first at 12:00 noon and the U-18's following at 2:15. CHIVAS DE GUADALAJARA UPDATE:
Chivas de Guadalajara fell by a 1-0 score in the Mexican First Division for the second consecutive week, this time dropping a match to Tigres UANL in Monterrey. Pedro Benítez scored for the hosts in the first half, and Guadalajara couldn't find an equalizer. Former Chivas USA star Francisco Mendoza entered the match as a substitute at the start of the second half, and received a red card in the 92nd minute of the match. With the loss, Chivas falls to 3-3-5 (W-L-T) on the season, and sits in fifth place in Group 2 of the Mexican First Division, just one point out of second place and five points behind leaders Pumas. Guadalajara has a week off from league action before facing San Luis at home on Saturday, April 4.
