WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United announced today plans to host the first Latin American Festival before the game against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, August 26th. Game-time kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at RFK Stadium and the match is presented by Kraft. The event is co-sponsored by the club's Hispanic Advisory Committee and will give fans a great opportunity to celebrate the culture, music and sport of Latin America.
As part of the festivities, El Salvador soccer legends Jorge "Magico" Gonzalez and Jaime Rodriguez will be present at the festival signing autographs and taking pictures with fans in attendance.
"I want to thank all the members of our Hispanic Advisory Committee for their time and dedication in helping us organize this event," said United Sr. Vice President Stephen Zack. "D.C. United is proud of the deep and rich history of support developed within the local Latin American community and the club is honored to pay tribute to our Hispanic fans and the community as a whole."
The pre-game fiesta will commence at 4:00 p.m. in Lot 8 of RFK Stadium and will remain open until kickoff. The festival is open to the public and will feature Latin American recording artist Alvaro Torres and other local bands. Typical cuisine from various Latin American countries will be available for all to enjoy, as well.
"Magico" Gonzalez is considered El Salvador's all-time greatest footballer. He starred for First Division side Cadiz in Spain's La Liga and was a member of El Salvador's 1982 World Cup team. Rodriguez was also a standout defensive player on the El Salvador 1982 World Cup squad and played professionally in Mexico, Finland and Japan. Rodriguez provided color commentary on Fútbol de Primera's Spanish-language radio broadcasts during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
